About University of California Riverside

The history of University of California, Riverside started in 1907, under the name of University's Citrus Experiment Station, becoming a part of the UC (University of California) system, in 1959.


UCR or UC Riverside is one of the 10 general campuses that are part of the University of California system, the main campus consisting in 1200 acres, located in a suburban district of Riverside, CA.


The university’s historical past is dominated by biological pest control research, being known for the contribution brought for extending the citrus growing season, using growth regulators, extending the season from 4 to 9 months.


The university consists in several interdisciplinary divisions, including 4 academic colleges and 2 professional schools, offering over 80 majors and more than 50 minors, 42 PhD programs and 48 master’s degrees.


The colleges and schools that are part of UCR include the College of Humanities, Arts and Social Sciences, the College of Natural and Agricultural Sciences, the Bourns College of Engineering, Graduate School of Education and A. Gary Anderson Graduate School of Management.


UC Riverside was highly ranked by several important magazines, such as the US News and World Report's and Washington Monthly, the university being placed on the 15th place among national universities and on the 40th place among public institutions.


The teams that are representing the university in collegiate championships (Big West Conference of NCAA Division I) are known as the Riverside Highlanders, having Scotty the Bear as their official mascot. They have won various titles in the past, covering sports areas such as soccer, baseball, volleyball, golf and tennis.
